Leftovers and Release
Leftovers and Release
The Friday sun was brutal, the kind of August heat that turned my Rav 4 into a sauna even with the window shade up. I'd parked in the faculty lot that morning with the windows cracked, but by 4:30 the interior was an oven for the hot Texas sun. The steering wheel burned my palms. The seatbelt buckle could have branded skin.
I didn't care.
School was out. The 2nd week of school was behind me—meetings and training modules and the slow, grinding realization that school was in full swing. My classroom looks good and the students are setting into the routine I set for them. The only problem is I have too many students for the computers I have. Stress level 1000.
But tonight was mine.
I prepared my car for getting on the road while the air conditioning struggled to cool the cab. I pulled down the sunshade folded it and got my water put in the cup holder and I typed the message I'd been thinking about since lunch.
On my way home.
His reply came before the light turned green.
See you soon.
Three words. That was all. But my stomach flipped anyway, a warm flutter that had nothing to do with the heat.
I turned on the GPS out of habit—I knew the route by heart, but the voice was company, a calm presence in the quiet car. Then I opened the glove box and dropped my phone inside. The latch clicked shut. The screen's glow disappeared.
No distractions. No notifications. No emails from the principal about last-minute schedule changes or missing paperwork or the seventeen things I'd forgotten to do before Monday.
Just me. The road. An hour and five minutes. That was the drive from the high school to our property, a mixture of 3 different highways, I'd made it a thousand times. I knew every bend, every pothole, every building and billboard and stretch of open sky.
Today, the drive felt different.
The sky was that deep, impossible blue that only happens in late August, the kind of blue that makes you believe in things.
By the time I turned onto the gravel road that winds down our property, my shoulders had dropped and the tension that had been living in my jaw all week—through the meetings and the training and the countless emails asking for my classes to be balanced — had started to dissolve. Gravel crunched under my tires. The mailbox appeared. The fence line. The barn,, the donkey's ears visible over the gate.
I pulled into the garage.
His truck was there.
I cut the engine and sat for a moment, my hands still on the wheel. The oldest girl’s Honda was gone—no crooked parking job by the mailbox. The girls were out. They'd mentioned something about Becca's house, a last minute sleepover. I'd said yes without really listening, my mind still on classroom grading papers.
But now, looking at the empty driveway, I understood what it meant.
He was home. The girls were gone. And I was about to get spanked.
The certainty of it settled into my stomach—not fear, exactly, but something sharper. Anticipation. The knowledge that he'd been waiting, that he'd planned this, that the three-word text had been the first move in a game I was already losing.
Grabbed my lunch bag from the passenger seat along with my bag. Then reached and grabbed my phone from the glove box. Stepped out of the car.
The mudroom was cool and dim, the tile floor a relief after the hot garage. I kicked off my flats—black, practical, the same pair I'd worn all week—and set my bag in the cubby by the door. My lunch bag went on the counter. The house smelled like him: coffee and the faint trace of the cologne he only wore on days he wanted my attention.
I walked into the living room.
He was on the couch.
One arm draped across the back. The other rested on his thigh. His jeans were worn soft at the knees, his button-down shirt rolled to his elbows. He was looking at the doorway like he'd been waiting for me, and when our eyes met, he smiled.
Not a big smile. A quiet one. The kind that said he'd been thinking about this moment for a while.
"There you are," he said.
"Here I am."
His eyes traveled over me—the modest cut of my dress, the way the fabric skimmed my hips, the bare legs beneath the hem. "I like that dress."
I smiled. A real smile, the first one all week that didn't feel like work. "Thanks. I got it at that little shop in Old Town. The one with the—"
"I know the one." His voice was low. Warm.
I stood in the doorway, suddenly aware of my heartbeat, of the way my palms were slightly damp. "Can I get you anything? A water? Coffee? I could start dinner if you're—"
"A water," he said. "And the hairbrush."
My mouth opened. Closed. Opened again.
"What?" The word came out as a whine, high and thin, the protest of a child who'd been caught before the game even started. "No. I didn't—I haven't even—"
He just sat there.
No explanation. No justification. Just the patient, unshakeable certainty of a man who knew exactly what he was doing and had no intention of explaining himself.
I held his gaze for three heartbeats. Then I turned and walked to the kitchen.
The water was easy—a glass from the cabinet, ice from the dispenser, the familiar sound of liquid filling the space. My hands were steady. My breathing was even. But my mind was somewhere else entirely, already upstairs, already standing in front of the bathroom vanity where the hairbrush waited.
I walked up the stairs slowly. Each step was a countdown. The hallway was quiet, the girls' doors closed, their rooms empty. The bathroom door was open. The hairbrush was exactly where it always was—on the vanity, beside the soap dish, its oak handle worn smooth from years of use.
I picked it up. The wood was cool against my palm.
Back downstairs, I set the glass on the coffee table. The hairbrush went beside it. Then I stood in the middle of the living room, my hands at my sides, waiting.
He didn't move from the couch. His eyes found mine, then traveled—slow, deliberate, taking in every detail. The neckline of my dress. The curve of my waist. The way my bare legs disappeared into the hem.
"Turn around."
I turned.
The silence stretched. I could feel his gaze on my back, on the way the dress pulled across my shoulders, on the subtle curve of my bottom beneath the fabric. The air in the room felt thick, charged, like the pressure before a storm.
"Strip," he said. "Fold your clothes. Put them on the coffee table."
My fingers found the hem of my dress. I pulled it over my head—carefully, deliberately, aware of his eyes on every inch of newly exposed skin. The fabric pooled at my feet. I bent to pick it up, folding it into a neat square, setting it on the coffee table beside the hairbrush.
My bra came next—front clasp, my fingers finding it automatically. The straps slid down my shoulders. I folded it. Set it on top of the dress.
My panties were last. Simple white cotton, nothing special, the same pair I'd pulled on at six that morning. I hooked my thumbs into the waistband and pushed them down, stepping out of them, folding them, adding them to the pile.
I stood naked in the living room. The afternoon light slanted through the windows, warm on my bare skin. My heart was pounding so hard I could feel it in my throat.
"Come here."
I walked to him. His hands found my waist, guiding me, turning me, pulling me down across his lap.
The position was familiar. The couch cushion pressed against my stomach. My hips were raised over his thigh. My feet left the ground. My hands found the floor, palms flat against the hardwood. My bottom—bare, exposed, vulnerable—was positioned exactly where he wanted it.
His hand came to rest on my lower back.
"Deep breath."
I breathed.
The first swat landed.
SMACK.
The sound echoed through the quiet living room, and the pain bloomed sharp and sudden across my right cheek. I yelped—a high, involuntary sound that seemed to come from somewhere outside myself.
He didn't pause. Didn't let me adjust.
SMACK. SMACK. SMACK.
The rhythm was hard and fast, each swat landing with a force that made me grunt. His hand covered every inch of my bottom, left cheek then right, the heat building in layers. I squirmed. Kicked. My fingers pressed into the floor, searching for purchase.
"Ow—ow—ow—"
My yelps came out in rhythm with the swats, my voice rising higher with each one. The sting was relentless, a steady drumbeat of fire that made my legs kick and my shoulders twist.
Then he reached for the hairbrush.
I heard the wood scrape against the coffee table. Felt him shift beneath me, adjusting his grip. The brush's flat back pressed against my burning skin—a warning, a promise.
I barely had time to brace.
The first stroke landed.
The sound was different from his hand—sharper, more focused, a crack that seemed to split the air. The pain was different too. It drove deeper, sank into the muscle, left a concentrated oval of fire that pulsed and spread.
He didn't count.
He didn't pause between strokes.
Fast and furious, the brush fell like a drumbeat, each impact layering on top of the last. Left cheek, right cheek, center, sit spots, the tender undercurve where my bottom met my thigh. He covered everything, and he covered it fast enough that I couldn't catch my breath between strokes.
I yelped. Then I screamed. Then I started crying.
Not the quiet tears that came with a slow, methodical punishment. These were the desperate, gasping sobs of someone who'd lost all control. I blubbered into the floor, my voice cracking, my words dissolving into incoherent pleas.
"Please—I can't—please, please—"
He kept spanking.
The brush kept falling, fast and hard, driving the fire deeper and deeper until I stopped begging and just cried. My body went limp across his lap. My legs stopped kicking. My hands uncurled from the floor.
I was nothing but tears and fire and the rhythmic, relentless crack of the brush.
And then it stopped.
The brush clattered to the coffee table. His hand came to rest on my burning skin, gentle now, soothing.
"Shhhh. I've got you. You did so well."
The words washed over me, distant and warm. I sobbed into the floor, my shoulders shaking, my bottom a universe of heat. His hand rubbed slow circles across the fire, grounding me, bringing me back.
Eventually, the sobs faded into hiccups. The hiccups faded into slow, shaky breaths. I lay limp across his lap, my face wet, my body spent.
He pulled me up, gathering me into his arms, settling me across his lap with my cheek against his chest. His hand stroked my hair. His voice was a low murmur against my ear.
"Good girl. My good girl."
I pressed my face into his shirt and let myself be held.

We ate leftovers for dinner.
I stood at the kitchen counter in my robe—loose, soft, the one he'd bought me for Christmas years ago—and assembled a salad. Mixed greens from the garden. Cherry tomatoes, still warm from the afternoon sun. Cucumber slices, thin and crisp. A squeeze of lemon, a drizzle of olive oil, a pinch of salt.
He reheated the steak from Tuesday, the meat still tender, the rosemary still fragrant. We didn't bother with the dining table. Just carried our plates to the couch, settled into our spots, pulled up the next episode of the series we'd been watching all summer.
His arm came around me. I leaned into him, my bottom still throbbing, the ache a steady, grounding presence against the couch cushion.
The show played. We ate. He refilled my water glass without being asked.
"Thanks" I said and he smiled at me.
I love your stories. Beautifully written, brings it all to life.
ReplyDeleteOhhhh thank you sir. I try to bring my perspective to the screen.

Say Hi to me.

ReplyDeleteI do not see anything. What is your username on SW?
DeleteThe leap from accepting the need for a reassurance/relief spanking from your Husband to asking for one is a pretty big one. Your description of the underlying and undeniable urge to ask, to the regret/non-regret for asking, of the anticipatory nervousness and, finally, the gratitude for and relief afterwards totally resonate with me - although I have yet to ever ask for one!
ReplyDeleteP.S. I looked for you and Single Guy on Similar Worlds and confess that the site totally baffles me.
Hi unanimous,
DeleteI rarely ask. I feel it changes the dynamic. Kind of like Topping from the bottom. But there are rare times that I cant go without it. So I ask. And yes I go through all those emotions but I think it's important to hit each step with nervousness layered throughout the process.
Tell me your "Similar Worlds" username. I wont approve the comment so no one else will see and I will message you on "Similar Worlds"
Hugs

Yes it does alter the dom/sub dynamic to ask for a spanking and so I told my husband that I will never do it. I think that I regret that decision and I might change it after reading your essay. I think that your husband's use of the hairbrush reasserted his dominance and the non-sexual cuddle afterwards reinforced that the spanking was a gift from him to you. He sounds like a swell husband!
ReplyDeleteAnnee,
DeleteIf you only knew... how awesome my husband is. I could write a book. His take charge attitude saved my life. I am a cancer survivor, 2.25 years ago they gave me 5% chance of survival. It is my husband who made the medicine I am on happen.
Bottom line, I am luckiest girl in the world.

Dear Lisa, I'm not sure that my comments are on the right essay (you watching TV and texting your request) but couldn't find the right one without getting lost in your blog. That is very easy for me to do so I need more than a quickly caught moment. I tried to look you up on SW and the above comment "What a website!" made me eager to see more of your writing but I am very nervous about social media and a complete tech dope. When I couldn't even figure out how to open it, I figured that the Universe was telling me something and came back to this form of communication. And because our worlds are NOT similar (they could not be more different in ways that most people would consider important), I fear that additional personal information will "jinx" the burgeoning and, for me, exciting dynamic that I sense between us. It is not fair for me to know so much about you through your postings and for you know nothing about me (except now my name!) so perhaps instead of a public social site, I can share enough about me to somewhat balance the informational sheet.
ReplyDeleteSimilarities: We are both wives and mothers of adoring husbands and child(ren); we both believe in a higher being who expects us to be his servants on earth and holds us in his care; we are both in a domestic discipline marriage although yours was long established by your husband and mine is new(ish) and instigated by me; spanking is a wholistic part of our marriage and not limited to sex or punishment; you and I both show love through service to others; we both spend time with young people who are not blood related; we both love words, although you are a writer and I a mere editor, our husbands use their hands in other ways than spanking us - mine plays the piano and we both love the mountains. When I have time to do them justice, I will share with you my husband's (very positive) reaction to your blog except to relate his first: "She's a very good writer!" I'll be back! Annee
Hey Annee,
DeleteI can't wait to hear what your husband said.
I love that we have so much in common and I cant wait to message you privately.
We can do that with email if you like but I do like SW more.
If you go to SW I have messaged you. You will see up at the top of the webpage an envelop with a number on it. If you click that envelop you will see my message from Lisa82.
Let me know if it works.
